Boot Sector
A physical location of 512 bytes on a hard drive that is comprised of the MBR and the partition table.

A bus that consists of 20 to 64 seperate hardware lines that act as the primary data path between the CPU and the North Bridge.

The connection between the RAM cache and the CPU; it generally runs at the same speed as the CPU itself.

Computing Technology Industry Association is an industry-wide, vendor-neutral association comprised of over 16,000 corporate members.
Capacitor
A circuit component inside of a power supply that holds an electrical charge.
Intel
A technology company known mainly for their computer processors and chipsets. They design and produce the Pentium and Celeron CPUs. This company was founded in 1968, and since that time has grown to one of the largest processor designers and manufacturers in the world.
Byte (B)
Eight binary units. This is represented by an uppercase B.
CPU
Central Processing Unit. Made up of the control unit and the arithmetic logic unit. It is also referred to as the processor.
AMD
Advanced Micro Devices. A technology company known mainly for their computer processors and chipsets. They design and produce the Athlon and Sempron processors. This company was founded in 1969, and since that time has grown to one of the largest processor designers and manufacturers in the world.
Motherboard
A thin, flat circuit board in a computer that contains the main memory, expansion slots, and connection ports for peripheral devices.
Antistatic Mat
A mat that is attached to an ESD Wrist strap and to a ground in order to prevent ESD (Electrostatic Discharge).
DVD
An optical storage disc originally designed for video.
bit (b)
One binary digit. It is represented by a lowercase b.
Northbridge
A chip with its own special connection between the CPU and the RAM. The connection is seperate from the External Data Bus.
Quantity
A measurement that indicates a value. The measurement consist of: One kilobyte=1024 bytes One megabyte=1024 kilobytes One terabyte=1024 gigabytes
Switch
A mechanism that can be activated in order to allow the motherboard to work with a particular type of CPU.
